Happy birthday Dylan! I can't believe my baby is already ONE! But it has been a really fun and wonderful year with him. He is a smiley, good, kissable baby who I just squeeze and kiss and make laugh when his brothers are throwing tantrums or driving me crazy :)
My mom flew out for Dylan's birthday which was so nice to have her here to celebrate with us. We decided to keep the celebration very small because so many friends were out of town and I though celebrating as a family would be fun, especially with my mom here and it being the last weekend of summer.
We started the day with some delicious apple fritter bread and a "1" candle. Dylan wasn't quite sure what to do with it. He enjoyed us singing happy birthday to him though :)
After breakfast I finished up his cake. Decided to do a crab theme since he is our Maryland baby.
Then we set out on a little adventure to check out Great Falls Park. It was a hot and humid day, but it gave us a little something fun to get out and see. It was a quick walk out to the falls from the parking lot and an amazing view.
BIRTHDAY BOY!
After the falls we went into Bethesda and walked around Bethesda row for a little bit and got Georgetown cupcakes for the rest of us, since Dylan's cake was all for him and I didn't feel like making 2 dozen cupcakes for the rest of us to have.
After Bethesda we came home, loaded everything up and then headed to the pool for dinner and a cake smash. I was so glad the weather cooperated for us to spend the evening at the pool
We had chicken salad sandwiches on croissants with eyes to keep with the crab theme.
Dylan is a good eater and loves sweets, so I anticipated a really good cake smash. This was definitely not the case, haha. He did have a fever that day, so I partially blamed the fact that he seriously wanted almost nothing to do with the cake on him not feeling great. He's still pretty dang cute...but no cake smashed all over his face pics, because he hardly even touched the cake :)
His brothers tried to encourage him...but still nothing.
The rest of us enjoyed our cupcakes though :)
Everyone was so tired by the time we got back from the pool that we decided to hold off on presents til the next morning... But then he got to open a few things and had fun with the paper.
And since his cake was still in almost perfect condition, i gave him one more chance at a cake smash. It was slightly better but barely. He must just really not love cake, or not like getting dirty. I don't know because I thought he liked both things ;) I finally gave him a fork and he finally ate a few bites of it. This is my new tactic to get him to eat and it works almost every time. If there is food on his tray that he isn't eating I'll give him a fork and he will eat it all. He's gotten really good with a fork and can stab food and get it in his mouth. It's pretty cute to watch him eat with it.
We love you Dylan. You are such an awesome happy baby!
