Thanksgiving in Hickory

One thing that made me excited to be on the East Coast for a bit was to finally live closer to the Schiebels again. I can't believe it has been 8 years since we both lived in Kentucky together! Since Grant had 4 days off for Thanksgiving, we decided to head down to Hickory. I hadn't been since we drove through on our move here and Grant hadn't been to their house in probably 6 or 7 years!

We left our house at around 2:40 am (Grant went to bed at 7 the night before so we could get up early and be ready to drive). We had everything ready and then stuck the kids in the car and took off. I thought the kids would immediately fall back asleep but Rowan and Boden actually stayed awake for about 45 minutes because they were so excited (they just sat there calmly looking out the windows)..but then fell back asleep for 4 hours! At that point we stopped for gas and a little stretch break, had them pee, and we only had a little over 2 hours until we arrived at their house. They played some games on the tablets, etc and it was a great trip!

We arrived at the Schiebels Thanksgiving morning and had an awesome day together. We had already had a Friendsgiving at our house with the endo residents and they aren't super into Thanksgiving food, so we had a non traditional meal of steak and potatoes, and it was awesome!
Boys in the kitchen prepping the steaks... (used Al's new sous vide which was pretty cool)
I somehow forgot to take a pic of my food plate :(
That afternoon we spent some time in the hot tub (and the boys took a polar plunge into the pool for a second) and played in the yard. It was a beautiful day.
So fun to have all these kids together.
We went for a few walks around the neighborhood while we were there.
The rest of the weekend we just spent hanging out and it was perfect. Allie LOVED playing with Dylan which was super cute.
One day we played soccer all together which turned out way more fun than I thought it was going to be. Grant was running around holdind Dylan and Dylan just passed out in his arms. We laid him down on the pile of jackets and he stayed asleep the rest of the game!
Dylan was also obsessed with the huge island because he loves being up eye level with everyone and this is the entire length of the kitchen so he made it his home.
Boys loved the bubbles in the jetted tub
We played games (Connect 4, Guess Who and Pie Face) and talked and laughed and had such a great time together. We're planning to make it back out in the spring so we can go out on the boat!
