Oki Birthday Bash

With the boys' birthdays only 4 days apart and both of them having the same friends/fans :) we decided to do a joint birthday party. With our time here in Okinawa coming to an end, we decided Oki would be the perfect theme for their party. It was so fun to plan and decorate for. My parents flew in the day before so got to celebrate with us which was perfect...and as always were a huge help. My mom has been able to attend every birthday party we've had (all 3 years for Rowan), a real treat living this far away!
About 2 hours before the party started, it started POURING rain. I knew it was a possibility, but I was really hoping we would avoid it. So...we ended up being inside for the first half of the party, but it stopped about an hour into the party and luckily was hot enough to dry up fast so we got to go outside!
On the menu: Taco rice, corn dip, dessert sushi (banana and nutella wrapped in tortilla, rice krispy treat, fruit roll up and swedish fish, and coconut rice with fruit). Brea was nice enough to make the cupcakes for me...I was trying to simplify things and I'm in love with her golden oreo cupcakes ;) I ordered the shisa cookies for Boden's cake from a bakery but made the rest of the cake for him to smash.
For party favors we found these mason jars with straw lids and decided to get them for everyone...I added the names and shisa vinyl accents and I think they turned out so cute!
I was terrible about getting pics with people at the party, but we were so blessed to celebrate with so many amazing friends. We're lucky to have so many good people in our lives here.
Boden's cake smash was first on the agenda after dinner...
He wanted the cookies on top first, but as soon as I took those away, he dug right into the cake...he did a pretty awesome job, except he kept trying to get up and walk around! We had to redirect him a few times ;)
Boden is such a good sharer.
And Rowan just couldn't let Boden eat it all...
And then it was Rowan's turn. He wanted to "smash a cupcake"...and that he did. He rubbed frosting all over himself and called it "green sunscreen"
Boden apparently didn't eat enough cake, so decided he needed a cupcake too...and I think he liked it even more than his cake :)
Taking a picture of all the kids was pretty much impossible :)
And Rowan is finally old enough to be SUPER excited about presents
He opened this one and said, "oh, it's only a tractor" and then opened it the rest of the way and realized it was an entire truck and got SO excited about it.
Bags are better than presents for 1-year-olds
We have some awesome friends who completely spoiled our kids
And here we are a year after Boden's birth...so grateful these amazing friends were there for his birth to help safely bring him into this world.
We had so much fun with everyone who came to celebrate with us. I wish we could have had even more people (but my party planning skills and home space just didn't accomodate any more :) Happy birthday to my favorite little boys!
