We decided to have a few mini vacations while my parents were here, just to mix things up a bit since they had already been to Okinawa a few times before. We headed to Okuma (a military beach resort about an hour north of us) for a couple of days. We celebrated Rowan's birthday and then played for the next two days. Because there had been so much rain the week before, I was worried the weather would be terrible, but it ended up being great. We got rained on a few times but not for any significant amount of time.
We stayed in the Turtle's Nest cabins, which are nice log cabin type places with plenty of room for all of us, right on the beach, with your own fire pit, etc. It was perfect. After we checked in, we got settled, rented a golf cart, and started a fire to cook up some hot dogs for Rowan's birthday dinner :)
The next morning, Boden of course was the first one awake, and in an attempt to let everyone else sleep, I took him out for a walk. It was one of the only times I was glad he got me up early because it was so peaceful, calm and beautiful! We watched the sun rise and got to see some gorgeous sights. We've been here for 3 years now, but the clarity of the water never ceases to amaze me.
The view from our front porch...
Once everyone else woke up and we got breakfast, I took them all to see what I had seen that morning, plus a few little hikes to lookout points, etc.
That afternoon, we did a little beach walking out to a small island you can walk to at low tide. We had been out there once before, a few months after moving to Oki, but hadn't been since and wanted to check it out again. We of course couldn't pass up another picture of this cool hole in the rock.
Mid way through this excursion it started to rain on us, luckily we were already pretty wet and it wasn't cold, so we really didn't mind too much. It was crazy though...there seriously wasn't a cloud in the sky when we started, and then they started rolling in FAST! We found some cool tide pool creatures including starfish, lobsters, clams, mud skippers, hermit crabs, etc.
We ate at the restaurant there for dinner, but decided to do some mini golfing beforehand. It was Rowan's first time playing and of course he wanted to do it by himself. I love this picture...it captured this amazing hit, our amazement, and he got a hole in one!
Boden just liked walking around with a "walking stick"
It was perfect family time. We enjoyed the house, the beach, the golf cart, and most of all hanging out with each other! We booked a little cabin for a few weeks from now too because we had such a good time.
Building a log cabin at our log cabin :)
Movie night! We watched Toy Story before bed one night.
Thanks for the good times Okuma. It was a great trip and I was so glad my parents could be there to play and relax with us!

Thanks for a great time! We had so much fun!
